The agora was a public assembly, market, and meeting place in ancient Greece where philosophers like Aristotle frequented and debated. The Athenian agora was the heart of intellectual and civic life, where Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle would gather for trade, political debate, and philosophical discussion.
It was both an intellectual hub and the center of civic life — a place where citizens debated political events, spread philosophical ideas, and taught students in informal settings. While Aristotle later founded his formal school, the Lyceum, outside the city walls, the agora remained a vital space for socialization and the exchange of ideas.
Most students choose or switch majors in confusion, with limited exposure to what those majors really feel like day-to-day, how others found purpose in their field, and how different disciplines connect in unexpected, inspiring ways.
LinkedIn connects you to careers, not to the uncertainty of choosing what to study. Reddit has discussions, but they’re fragmented across random subreddits, with no verification of who’s actually a student.
There’s no space that connects personal reflection, academic identity, and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
Agora is the next phase of OpenMajors — a community space where students, alumni, and mentors share reflections, questions, and stories about their academic journeys.
It is not another social media feed or forum. It is a purpose-driven storytelling and discussion space designed to connect students around the deeper “why” behind what they study.
